why aromm psychology?
aromm (អារម្មណ៍ [ar-rom]) translates to emotions in khmer.
Emotions are felt by all of us. From sudden anger to deep sadness, our emotions can be complex. By exploring our emotions, we can learn to fully understand and make sense of ourselves.
For me, I grew up with parents who had survived the trauma of the Khmer Rouge. This had a lasting impact on how they expressed themselves emotionally, how they understood the world around them and how they connected to me. During this time, I struggled with my identity, understanding my emotions and making sense of my life.
During my studies, I learnt about human behaviour, how trauma can impact our relationships and the importance of connecting logical explanations to emotions. It turned confusing and unexplained experiences into opportunities for personal development.
Psychology was able to provide explanations to what my parents and I were experiencing. I no longer felt that my emotions were complex, that my identity was unclear or that life was hard to understand.
I created Aromm Psychology to support others who were having difficulties with their identity, struggling with their emotions or feeling that they could not connect and belong. I wanted to support the Cambodian community by providing my services in Khmer.
Our lives are full of moments and experiences that can be challenging and difficult. Despite differences in language and culture, connecting with our experiences, our emotions and our identity can help us gain deeper understanding of ourselves and our lives.
Aromm Psychology is a space where you can pause and reflect on your experiences, openly discusses your emotions, and reconnect with the truest version of yourself.
I provide therapy for adults who are experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, and adjusting to life transitions. Other factors such as family dynamics, interpersonal relationships and cultural expectations can play a role in these difficulties.
My approach is warm, culturally sensitive, collaborative and comfortable. I utilise evidence-based approaches to help you learn and understand the parts of yourself that are not fully known, focus on your emotions, explore your thoughts and feelings and identify recurrent patterns in your life through discussing past and present experiences.
The focus is on supporting you to understand yourself, through building your resilience and insight and by developing the practical skills needed to manage the difficult stages in life.
